On this day August 26, 1983, the animated fantasy film Fire and Ice made its debut in theaters. Directed by Ralph Bakshi and featuring the voices of Susan Tyrrell, Maggie Roswell, William Ostrander, Stephen Mendel, and Steve Sandor, the film showcased Bakshi’s unique rotoscope animation style, bringing a dark, mythic world to life.

With a budget of $1.2 million, Fire and Ice was a visually striking production, but it struggled at the box office, earning only $860,000. Despite its modest financial performance, the film has since gained a dedicated following for its distinctive animation and its place in the history of animated fantasy films.
