On this day September 7, 1988, INXS stole the spotlight at the 5th MTV Music Awards, taking home the coveted Video of the Year award for their hit Need You Tonight. The Australian band had a massive night, winning a total of five awards, including Best Group Video and the Viewers Choice Award. With nine nominations, INXS was the most-nominated and most-awarded act of the night.
