On this day July 10, 1985, Silverado premiered in theaters and delivered a fresh take on the classic American western. Directed by Lawrence Kasdan, the film assembled an impressive ensemble cast including Kevin Kline, Scott Glenn, Kevin Costner, Rosanna Arquette, John Cleese, Brian Dennehy, Danny Glover, Jeff Goldblum, and Linda Hunt.

Set in the New Mexico territory, Silverado followed a group of unlikely allies who band together to restore justice to a corrupt town. With sweeping landscapes, fast paced shootouts, and character driven storytelling, the film paid tribute to the genre’s golden era while introducing a new generation of moviegoers to the thrill of the western. Kevin Costner’s breakout performance as the young and energetic Jake helped launch his rise in Hollywood. The film earned 32 million dollars at the box office against a 23 million dollar budget.
