On this day, September 27, 1986, the sitcom Amen premiered on NBC! Starring Sherman Hemsley, best known for his role on The Jeffersons, the show followed the comical and heartfelt adventures of Deacon Ernest Frye and his interactions with the members of his Philadelphia church. Amen ran for 5 seasons with a total of 110 episodes, becoming a beloved part of NBC’s Saturday night lineup.
