On this day, January 23, 1987, the sports comedy Jocks premiered in theaters. Directed by Steve Carver, the film followed the antics of a college tennis team filled with misfits as they competed in a high-stakes tournament. With a mix of humor and hijinks, the movie captured the 80s' love for underdog sports comedies.

The cast featured Scott Strader, Perry Lang, and Mariska Hargitay in one of her early film roles, alongside Donald Gibb (best known as Ogre from Revenge of the Nerds) and Richard Roundtree (the legendary star of Shaft). While it didn’t become a box office success, Jocks remains a nostalgic watch for fans of 80s comedy.

Fun Fact: Mariska Hargitay, who played one of the film’s main characters, went on to achieve massive fame as Olivia Benson in Law & Order: SVU, a role she has held since 1999.
