On this day, January 10, 1987, the final episode of Heart of the City aired on ABC. This crime drama starred Robert Desiderio as Detective Wes Kennedy, a single father balancing his challenging career solving crimes with raising his two teenagers, played by Christina Applegate and Jonathan Ward.

The series blended police procedural elements with heartfelt family drama, focusing on Wes’s efforts to connect with his children while navigating the dangerous realities of his job. Despite its unique premise and a strong performance by Desiderio, Heart of the City lasted only one season with 13 episodes.

Fun Fact: Christina Applegate, who played Wes’s rebellious daughter Robin, gained fame just a year later for her iconic role as Kelly Bundy on Married… with Children.

Did you watch Heart of the City? How do you think it compares to other 80s dramas that combined family and crime themes?
