On this day, October 29, 1984, Frankie Goes to Hollywood released their debut album Welcome to the Pleasuredome. The album made a strong impact, reaching #33 on the Billboard charts in the US and hitting #1 in both the UK and New Zealand. Featuring the controversial hit “Relax,” the album became a defining release of the ’80s.

Did you know? The BBC banned “Relax” for its suggestive lyrics, but despite the ban, the song still hit #1 on the UK charts and climbed to #10 in the US, proving its widespread popularity and iconic status.
