On This Day: May 10, 1988 - Final Episode of Dolly Variety Show Airs
On this day May 10, 1988, the final episode of Dolly, Dolly Parton’s prime time variety show, aired after one season and 22 episodes. The show featured musical performances, comedy sketches, celebrity guests, and plenty of Dolly’s signature charm and rhinestones. It was her second attempt at a variety format after her first show in the 70s.

Despite big names and a strong start, Dolly struggled with ratings and was quietly canceled by ABC. Still, it offered a unique showcase of her talent and highlighted her ability to entertain far beyond the country music stage.

Fun fact: Dolly’s guests included stars like Oprah Winfrey, Tom Petty, and Whoopi Goldberg, blending country with mainstream appeal.
