On This Day: July 10, 1987 – The Time of My Life Was Released from Dirty Dancing
On this day July 10, 1987, the duet (I've Had) The Time of My Life by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes was released as the lead single from the Dirty Dancing soundtrack. With its emotional build, sweeping melody, and unforgettable final dance scene, the song quickly became one of the most iconic movie themes of the 1980s.

Although the single did not reach number one until later that year, it eventually topped the US Billboard Hot 100 from November 28 through December 4. It also reached number one in Canada, Belgium, the Netherlands, Australia, and South Africa. The track won both the Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Original Song and helped make the Dirty Dancing soundtrack one of the best selling albums of the decade.

80s insight: The Time of My Life became more than just a hit—it was the sound of one of the most unforgettable moments in 80s movie history.
