Super Mario Bros 2 was my favorite in the 80s. A lot of people thought it was weird but I liked that you could choose different characters and that they all had different abilities. It felt like a big step forward from the first game. Also the music and enemy design were so different it always stood out to me even though it technically wasn’t originally a Mario game in Japan.

Super Mario 2 was great but the first one is what started it all for me hence why I chose it.
 
I'm going to take it back a step further and go with Donkey Kong. That was the first video game that had mario.

This is true. I had Donkey Kong for the Colecovision. It was a fun game.
