On this day, October 28, 1985, ZZ Top released their ninth album, Afterburner. The album was a commercial success, reaching #4 on the Billboard charts and blending their blues rock roots with a synth-heavy, futuristic sound. With hits like “Sleeping Bag” and “Velcro Fly,” Afterburner helped ZZ Top maintain their momentum in the mid-’80s and continued their string of popular albums.
