On this day, December 3, 1984, Wham! released their iconic holiday single “Last Christmas.” Despite its enduring popularity, the song peaked at number two on the UK Singles Chart during its initial release, held off the top spot by Band Aid’s “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”

Interestingly, “Last Christmas” finally reached number one on the UK Singles Chart in January 2021, 36 years after its original release, proving its timeless appeal. The song’s nostalgic music video was filmed in the scenic Swiss ski resort of Saas-Fee, which celebrated the 40th anniversary of the filming in 2024 with special attractions and events.
