The question of whether the 1980s were truly "better" before the digital age is a fascinating one, and it often hinges on a mix of nostalgia and the tangible differences in lifestyle and technology. Were the 1980s actually better before everything went digital or are we romanticizing a decade that had just as many problems as today?
I get what you’re saying but I think age plays a big role. Of course it felt freer. We were younger and had fewer responsibilities. If smartphones existed back then I’m not convinced people would’ve ignored them. We just didn’t have the option.People definitely gloss over the bad parts but I still think the 1980s felt better day to day.You didn’t feel watched all the time. No phones, no constant news cycle no pressure to comment on everything. Even boring days felt quieter in a good way. I wouldn’t trade that feeling for convenience.
No sorry I don’t buy that completely. I was busy back then too. Work, family, everything. The difference is you weren’t reachable every second of the day. That changes how your brain rests. Age doesn’t explain that part.I get what you’re saying but I think age plays a big role. Of course it felt freer. We were younger and had fewer responsibilities. That’s easy to say but society absolutely expects you to be plugged in now. Ignore messages too long and people take it personally. That pressure didn’t exist in the 80s and it changes how people act whether they admit it or not.Everyone akts like the eighties were all arcades and mixtapes There was plenty of boredom and crap. The differense is you delt with it and moved on. That part was better no question about it.
Both sides are partially correct. Technology itself isn’t the issue. The issue is interruption density. In the 80s attention was fragmented far less often. Studies on cognition show fewer interruptions improve mood and memory retention. That would naturally make the decade feel more grounded to those who lived in it.
I may have been born in 1988. However , I was raised on tons of eighties , franchises , music, art , so strangely , though I was a nineties kid , I have eighties nostalgia , even though technically , I wasn't born in the eighties. I also have nineties nostalgia. But my heart is always in 80s, girl.Even though technically , i'm a poser , since I was not born the eighties. Were the 1980s actually better before everything went digital or are we romanticizing a decade that had just as many problems as today?

But in all fairness , the nineties were still the eighties in a lot of it's morals, the music, cetra.. There wasn't necessarily a nineties , it was the eighties twice , and then it went to the 2000's and I feel like a sudden culture shock! personally.
The 80s didn’t just shut off at midnight on January 1st. A lot of the music and morals carried over and then suddenly the 2000s felt like a totally different world. If your heart stayed with the 80s like yours obviously did it means you're not a poser.I may have been born in 1988.
