On this day, December 17, 1982, Trail of the Pink Panther premiered in theaters across the U.S. Directed by Blake Edwards, this comedic mystery continues the adventures of the bumbling Inspector Clouseau, with footage of Peter Sellers from earlier Pink Panther films incorporated after the actor’s passing in 1980.

The film features a talented supporting cast, including David Niven, Herbert Lom, Richard Mulligan, Joanna Lumley, Robert Loggia, and Harvey Korman. While it received mixed reviews for its reliance on recycled footage, Trail of the Pink Panther still managed to capture the charm of its beloved lead character and the enduring humor of the series. It grossed $9.1 million against a $6 million budget.
