On this day September 13, 1986, The Real Ghostbusters, an animated series based on the hit 1984 film Ghostbusters, made its debut on ABC. The show ran for 7 seasons with a total of 140 episodes, and it expanded the world of the Ghostbusters by following the continuing adventures of the ghost-catching team: Egon, Peter, Ray, and Winston, along with their trusty secretary Janine and the lovable ghost Slimer.

The series was praised for its clever storytelling, vibrant animation, and its ability to capture the charm of the original movie while developing its own unique identity. The show became a staple of Saturday morning cartoons throughout the 80s and early 90s.

Fun Fact!

The title The Real Ghostbusters was chosen to differentiate the animated show from another cartoon called Filmation’s Ghostbusters, which was unrelated to the movie.
