On this day, November 25, 1984, The Smurfs and the Magic Flute premiered, bringing the beloved blue characters to the big screen. Directed by José Dutillieu, the animated film followed the Smurfs as they embarked on an adventure involving a magical flute with powers that could lead to chaos in the wrong hands.

Originally produced in Belgium in 1976 and based on Peyo’s comic series, the movie found success in the U.S. during the height of The Smurfs’ popularity, earning $19 million at the box office.
