On this day, November 20, 1985, The Colbys premiered on ABC. A spin-off of the hugely popular soap opera Dynasty, the series followed the dramatic lives of the wealthy and powerful Colby family.

Despite its connection to Dynasty and an impressive cast, including Charlton Heston, Barbara Stanwyck, and Katharine Ross, The Colbys lasted only two seasons, airing 49 episodes. However, it remains a memorable piece of 80s television history for fans of prime-time soap operas.
