On this day, October 31, 1980, the horror film The Awakening, directed by Mike Newell, premiered in theaters. Starring Charlton Heston, Susannah York, Jill Townsend, and Stephanie Zimbalist, the film is based on Bram Stoker’s novel The Jewel of Seven Stars. The story follows an archaeologist who unearths an ancient tomb, only to awaken a malevolent force. Despite a modest budget of $5.3 million, The Awakening earned $8.4 million at the box office, becoming a spooky treat for horror fans.
