Super Mario Bros 2 is a unique entry in the Mario franchise, originally released in North America in 1988 for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Unlike its predecessor, this game introduced a completely different style of gameplay. Players could choose to play as Mario, Luigi, Toad, or Princess Toadstool, each with their own special abilities. Instead of jumping on enemies to defeat them, you pulled vegetables from the ground and threw them. The game was set in the dreamlike world of Subcon, filled with quirky characters like Shy Guys, Birdo, and Mouser. Though very different from the original, it became a fan favorite and helped expand the Mario universe in new directions.
