How much is your local sales tax? How much was the sales tax back in the 80s?

Is everything taxed in your area (food for example)?

What goods or services do you think should be taxed more heavily, and which should not be taxed at all?

What do you think of sales tax in general?
 
Sales tax during the 80s varied from state to state and the year. From my understanding people during the 80s paid more in taxes than now. I could be wrong. Food, water, medicines and health services should be tax free.
