On this day September 2, 1988, The Deceivers, directed by Nicholas Meyer, made its debut in theaters. The film stars Pierce Brosnan and Saeed Jaffrey and tells the gripping story of a British officer who goes undercover to expose a secret society in 19th century India.

Despite its intriguing plot and strong performances, the film struggled at the box office. With a budget of $6 million, The Deceivers only managed to bring in $346,000, making it a commercial disappointment.
