On this day, September 19, 1984, “Amadeus” premiered nationwide, following its initial release in Los Angeles on September 6. Directed by Miloš Forman, this critically acclaimed film brought the story of musical genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to life with a compelling blend of drama and historical intrigue. Featuring an outstanding cast including F. Murray Abraham, Tom Hulce, and Elizabeth Berridge, “Amadeus” received widespread praise for its captivating performances and storytelling.

With a budget of $18 million, the film was a commercial success, grossing $52 million at the box office. It went on to win Best Picture at the 57th Academy Awards, and F. Murray Abraham earned the Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of Antonio Salieri, Mozart’s envious rival.
