On this day September 9, 1983, the horror anthology film Nightmares, directed by Joseph Sargent, was released. With a star-studded cast that included Emilio Estevez, Lance Henriksen, Cristina Raines, Veronica Cartwright, and Richard Masur, the film aimed to deliver four spine-chilling tales in one package. However, despite the $9 million budget, Nightmares fell short at the box office, grossing just $6.6 million.

Though not a massive commercial success, Nightmares has gained a bit of a cult following over the years for its eerie storytelling and performances, particularly Emilio Estevez’s role in the segment “Bishop of Battle.”
