On this day September 13, 1980, Solid Gold, a music and dance television show, made its debut and quickly became a fan favorite. The show ran for eight seasons, producing 332 episodes that featured the biggest hits of the time. Each episode highlighted the top 10 songs of the week, performed by dancers known as the “Solid Gold Dancers,” making it a unique blend of music countdown and vibrant choreography.

Solid Gold was known for its variety of celebrity hosts, including Dionne Warwick, who served as the host from 1980 to 1986. Later, Arsenio Hall took over hosting duties from 1986 to 1988, bringing his own charm and style to the show.

Fun Fact!

In addition to Warwick and Hall, the show often featured musical guests performing live, making it a key platform for promoting popular music in the early 80s.
