On May 8, 1989, Phish released their debut album Junta, a self produced collection that captured the band’s early improvisational style and genre bending approach. Named after their first official manager Ben "Junta" Hunter, the album was initially distributed on cassette and became a favorite among their growing grassroots fan base.
