On May 8, 1989, Phish released their debut album Junta, a self produced collection that captured the band’s early improvisational style and genre bending approach. Named after their first official manager Ben "Junta" Hunter, the album was initially distributed on cassette and became a favorite among their growing grassroots fan base.

Junta featured early versions of tracks like You Enjoy Myself, David Bowie, and Fluffhead that would become staples of Phish’s legendary live shows. The album...
