On this day March 14 1989 Deon Estus released his debut solo album Spell. Best known as the former bassist for Wham! Estus stepped into the spotlight with this album blending smooth R&B and pop influences.

Spell reached number 89 on the Billboard charts and featured the hit single Heaven Help Me which became a top five hit on the Billboard Hot 100. The album showcased Estus’ soulful vocals and strong songwriting marking a successful transition from bassist to solo artist.
