On This Day: March 12 1982 The Gift by The Jam Was Released.

On this day March 12 1982 The Jam released their sixth and final studio album The Gift. The album showcased a shift in their sound incorporating more soul and funk influences while still retaining their signature mod revival style.

The Gift reached number 82 on the Billboard charts but was a major success in the UK where it became The Jam’s first and only number one album. It featured hits like Town Called Malice and Precious which displayed the band’s evolving musical direction.
