On this day June 22, 1984, The Karate Kid premiered in theaters and quickly became one of the decade’s most beloved underdog stories. Directed by John G Avildsen, who also helmed Rocky, the film followed teenager Daniel LaRusso as he moves to California and learns karate from the wise and soft spoken Mr Miyagi. Together, they prepare for a showdown against the Cobra Kai dojo and its ruthless sensei.
