On this day June 13, 1980, The Island premiered in theaters. Directed by Michael Ritchie and based on a novel by Peter Benchley, the film starred Michael Caine, David Warner and Angela Punch McGregor. The story followed a journalist and his son who stumble upon a hidden colony of modern day pirates living in isolation in the Caribbean.
