On this day, December 8, 1980, the world lost one of its greatest musical icons when former Beatle John Lennon was tragically murdered at age 40. Mark David Chapman, a man with personal resentments against Lennon, shot him outside the Dakota apartment building in New York City.

This devastating event sent shockwaves across the globe, as fans mourned the loss of the legendary artist whose music with The Beatles and his solo work had profoundly impacted generations. Lennon’s legacy lives on through timeless songs like “Imagine” and “Give Peace a Chance,” which continue to inspire hope and unity.

Did you know that Mark David Chapman served time at Attica Prison in New York from 1981 to 2012 and is now at Green Haven Correctional Facility in Beekman, New York?
