On this day, November 29, 1980, the TV adaptation of Breaking Away premiered on ABC. Based on the critically acclaimed 1979 film of the same name, the series followed the lives of four young men in Bloomington, Indiana, as they navigated friendships, dreams, and challenges after high school.

The show starred Jackie Earle Haley, best known for his role as Kelly Leak in The Bad News Bears, alongside Shaun Cassidy, Tom Wiggin, and Vincent Gardenia. Despite its charm and connection to the beloved movie, Breaking Away ran for just one season with a total of 8 episodes.
