On August 30, 1980, Christopher Cross’s hit song “Sailing” reached the top spot on the US Billboard Charts, where it remained until September 5. The soothing ballad also topped the charts in Canada and later won the prestigious Grammy Award for “Song of the Year.”

Fun Fact! At the 1981 Grammy Awards, Christopher Cross made history as the first and only artist to win all four major categories—“Album of the Year,” “Song of the Year,” “Record of the Year,” and “Breakthrough Artist of the Year”—in a single night.
