On August 24, 1981, Mark David Chapman, the man who tragically took the life of music legend John Lennon, was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison. Chapman, who had pleaded guilty to the murder, chillingly admitted that he killed Lennon for what he described as "self-glory."

Did you know? After committing the murder, Chapman remained at the scene and calmly sat down to read the book Catcher in the Rye until the police arrived to arrest him.
