On July 2, 1980, the comedy film “Airplane!” premiered in theaters. The movie starred Robert Hays, Julie Hagerty, and Leslie Nielsen, and quickly became a classic for its unique blend of slapstick humor and satire.

The co-pilot Roger Murdoch, portrayed by basketball star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, was originally supposed to be played by baseball legend Pete Rose.
