On this day, January 9, 1987, the short-lived series Shell Game premiered on CBS. This crime-drama-comedy hybrid starred Margot Kidder and James Read as a pair of con artists who used their skills to help those in need while occasionally finding themselves in trouble with the law.

The show had a unique mix of humor, drama, and intrigue, but despite its promising premise and the star power of Margot Kidder (Superman), Shell Game failed to gain traction with viewers. It only lasted one season, producing a total of six episodes before being canceled.

Fun Fact: Margot Kidder’s performance as a charming and resourceful con artist added a distinct flair to the show, but her fame from Superman wasn’t enough to keep Shell Game afloat in a competitive TV landscape.

Do you remember Shell Game? What’s your favorite short-lived TV series that deserved more attention?
