Reed gained lasting fame for her role as Mary Hatch Bailey in Frank Capra’s It’s a Wonderful Life (1946), a holiday classic cherished by generations. She also won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Alma in From Here to Eternity (1953), a performance that showcased her dramatic range.
