The 1980s were a vibrant time for music, with genres like new wave, synth-pop, and hair metal dominating the airwaves. Some standout albums from the decade include "Thriller" by Michael Jackson, released in 1982, which became the best-selling album of all time. Madonna's "Like a Virgin" from 1984 helped define the pop landscape, while U2's "The Joshua Tree" in 1987 brought a mix of rock and socially conscious lyrics.

Bands like Duran Duran, known for their stylish music videos and catchy tunes, and The Police, with their reggae-influenced rock, also left a significant mark. For those who enjoyed a heavier sound, Metallica's "Master of Puppets" from 1986 is often hailed as a metal masterpiece. Each of these artists and albums contributed to the diverse and dynamic soundscape of the 80s.
 
That's a great question and I don't know where to begin. These are some of my favorite artists and bands from the 80s.

  • Dire Straits
That's just some and theose are basically my favorite main stream artists. I have a lot 80s metal bands that I love if you're interested in that music. As for albums whew that would take forever to list but I'll start with a few.

  • Alphaville - Forever Young
  • A-ha - Hunting High and Low and Soundrel Days
  • David Bowie - Let's Dance
  • Modern Talking - Let's Talk About Love and Ready for Romance
  • Duran Duran - Rio
These are the first to pop up in my head. I have so many to list. As I remember I'll keep adding.
 
I was really into albums you could listen to all the way through. One of my absolute favorites was Chicago 17. I also played a lot of Toto’s IV and No Jacket Required by Phil Collins. Then there was REO Speedwagon, Foreigner, Air Supply and Lionel Richie. I know some of it was considered soft rock but that’s what I liked. I still have my original copies on vinyl and they still sound just as good today.
 
Some of my favorites are Like a Virgin by Madonna, Private Dancer by Tina Turner, She's So Unusual by Cyndi Lauper and Make It Big by Wham. I also loved Heart, especially their 1985 Heart album. Anything that made me want to sing into a hairbrush in my bedroom got played on repeat.
 
I was all about the loud stuff. AC DC=Back in Black, Van Halen=1984, Def Leppord=Pyromania, ZZ Top=Eliminator, Motley Crue=Shout at the devil. I had those blasting in my car every weekend. Still crank them up today and they sound just as good.
 
Those are some good albums and song. The music that came out during the 80s were amazing.
