On this day, November 23, 1988, Cocoon: The Return premiered in theaters. Directed by Daniel Petrie, this sequel to the 1985 hit Cocoon brought back beloved cast members like Don Ameche, Wilford Brimley, Hume Cronyn, and Jessica Tandy, while adding new faces like Courteney Cox and Elaine Stritch.

The film continued the story of the elderly group who left Earth with benevolent aliens and returned to visit their home planet. With its heartwarming mix of humor, drama, and sci-fi, Cocoon: The Return earned $25 million at the box office on a $17.5 million budget.
