Plot: Annie 1982 is widely recognized as the original Annie movie that introduced a new generation to the beloved Broadway musical. Directed by John Huston and based on the stage hit of the same name, the film brought Little Orphan Annie to life with vibrant musical numbers, colorful characters, and a classic rags to riches story set during the Great Depression.

Aileen Quinn stars as Annie, the spirited redhead who dreams of a better life beyond the walls of the orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan, played by Carol Burnett. When billionaire Oliver Warbucks decides to host an orphan for the holidays, Annie captures his heart and turns his world upside down. Along the way, the film explores loyalty, hope, and the belief that tomorrow can always be brighter.

With standout performances by Albert Finney, Tim Curry, Bernadette Peters, and Geoffrey Holder, the original Annie movie combines big musical set pieces with heartwarming family drama. The film includes memorable songs like “It’s the Hard Knock Life,” “Easy Street,” and “Tomorrow,” which helped cement Annie as a household name throughout the 1980s.

Today, Annie 1982 remains a nostalgic favorite and a cornerstone of 80s family entertainment. Its mix of optimism, musical charm, and larger than life performances continues to resonate with audiences young and old.

I rented Annie a few different times when I was a kid from the local video store. I liked it when I was a kid.
