On This Day: May 2, 1989 - The Stone Roses Release Their Debut Album
On May 2, 1989, The Stone Roses released their self titled debut album, a landmark record that helped define the sound of British alternative rock at the end of the decade. Blending jangly guitars, psychedelic influences, and dance rhythms, the album became a cornerstone of the Madchester movement.

The album reached number 86 on the US Billboard charts and was much more successful in the UK where it eventually gained classic status. Songs like I Wanna Be Adored and She Bangs the Drums introduced a new sound that would go on to influence countless bands in the 1990s and beyond.

Fun fact: The Stone Roses debut album has frequently appeared on lists of the greatest British albums of all time and was named the best album of all time by NME in 2006.
