On this day March 21 1986 the animated film Care Bears Movie II A New Generation premiered in theaters. Directed by Dale Schott the film featured the voices of Alyson Court Cree Summer Maxine Miller and Hadley Kay.

Serving as a prequel to the original Care Bears Movie this installment introduced the Care Bear Cubs and explained the origins of the Care Bears and Care Bear Cousins. The story followed their battle against the evil Dark Heart who sought to destroy caring and kindness in the world. Despite being aimed at a young audience the film grossed 12 million at the box office proving the popularity of the Care Bears franchise.

Fun fact: This was the first Care Bears film to be produced by Canadian animation studio Nelvana which later became known for classics like Babar and Beetlejuice The Animated Series.
