On this day June 26, 1987, the final episode of Rocky Road aired on WTBS, closing out a three season run with a total of 71 episodes. The series followed three siblings who take over running an ice cream parlor after their parents are lost at sea. It became one of the early original sitcoms developed specifically for cable television.

Though it did not achieve mainstream network success, Rocky Road helped establish WTBS as a home for original programming during a time when cable was beginning to offer real competition to the big networks.

80s insight: Rocky Road marked a turning point in 80s television when cable stations started producing their own shows, laying the groundwork for the cable TV boom that would explode in the decades to come.
