On This Day: July 10, 1987 – Revenge of the Nerds II Nerds in Paradise Premiered in Theaters
On this day July 10, 1987, Revenge of the Nerds II Nerds in Paradise premiered in theaters and brought the lovable misfits back for another round of comedy and chaos. Directed by Joe Roth, the sequel followed the Lambda Lambda Lambda fraternity as they traveled to a national convention in Florida, only to face more ridicule and sabotage from the Alpha Betas.

Robert Carradine, Anthony Edwards, Curtis Armstrong, Larry B Scott, Timothy Busfield, Andrew Cassese, and Donald Gibb all returned to reprise their roles. Set against a sunny resort backdrop, the sequel leaned into slapstick humor and over the top antics while continuing the original film’s message of standing up to prejudice and stereotypes. The film earned 30.1 million dollars at the box office on a 10 million dollar budget.

80s insight: Revenge of the Nerds II proved that even in paradise, the underdogs were still fighting for respect and having a blast doing it.
