On This Day: April 5, 1982 - Report to Murphy Premiered on CBS
On this day April 5, 1982, CBS premiered Report to Murphy, a short lived comedy series starring Michael Keaton in one of his early television roles. The show followed probation officer Murphy, a well meaning and quirky guy trying to guide his colorful clients back onto the right path while juggling his own challenges.

Despite Keaton's rising star power and the show's lighthearted tone, Report to Murphy only ran for one season with a total of six episodes. It never found a wide audience, but it gave fans a chance to see Keaton in a different light just before his big break in film. Even though the show may have been brief it's a fun footnote in Keaton’s career and part of the unique blend of experimental sitcoms that networks were testing out in the early 80s.

Fun fact: Report to Murphy aired just a year before Michael Keaton's breakout movie role in Mr Mom.

Trivia question: What major 80s comedy film helped launch Michael Keaton into stardom after Report to Murphy?
