On This Day September 14 1989 – Quickness Album by Bad Brains Released
On this day September 14 1989, Bad Brains released their fourth studio album Quickness. The record pushed boundaries by blending punk, reggae, metal, and funk into one aggressive and urgent sound that stood out in the late 80s music scene.

Quickness featured tracks such as Soul Craft, Voyage Into Infinity, The Messengers, With the Quickness, and Silent Tears. Although credited drummer Earl Hudson appeared on the cover, the actual drum tracks were played by Mackie Jayson. The album became one of the band’s best selling releases and showed how they could evolve while holding firmly to their hardcore roots.

80s insight: Quickness reflected how bands during the late 80s were embracing genre mixing to expand their reach. By combining speed, groove, and politically charged themes, Bad Brains helped influence the future direction of alternative and metal acts that followed.
