On This Day: May 13, 1989 - Final Episode of The Snorks Aired
On this day May 13, 1989, the final episode of The Snorks aired, bringing an end to the undersea adventures of the colorful snorkel-headed characters who entertained kids throughout the 1980s. Created by Belgian cartoonist Nicolas Broca, The Snorks ran for four seasons and featured 65 episodes split into 108 animated segments.

The show originally aired on NBC from 1984 to 1986 before moving into syndication through 1989. Set in the underwater city of Snorkland, the series followed friendly sea creatures as they dealt with everyday problems, explored their world and stood up to villains like the evil Bigweed. With its bright animation style and gentle humor, The Snorks offered a whimsical alternative to the more action-heavy cartoons of the era.

Although often compared to The Smurfs, The Snorks carved out their own loyal fanbase and became a staple of Saturday morning television for a generation of viewers.

Fun fact: The Snorks were originally pitched as underwater Smurfs and were produced by the same company, Hanna-Barbera.
