On this day March 6 1987 the psychological horror thriller Angel Heart premiered in theaters. Directed by Alan Parker the film starred Mickey Rourke as a private investigator hired to track down a missing man only to uncover a dark and supernatural mystery. Robert De Niro played the enigmatic Louis Cyphre while Lisa Bonet took on a controversial role that challenged her image from The Cosby Show.

Blending elements of noir horror and psychological suspense Angel Heart was praised for its eerie atmosphere and intense performances. Despite strong reviews the film struggled at the box office earning 17.1 million against its 18 million budget. Over time it has gained a cult following for its chilling storyline and unforgettable twists.
