On this day March 4 1988 the comedy film Moving premiered in theaters. Directed by Alan Metter the movie starred Richard Pryor alongside a supporting cast that included Randy Quaid Dana Carvey and Rodney Dangerfield.

The film followed Richard Pryor as Arlo Pear a New Jersey engineer who is forced to relocate to Idaho for a new job. What should have been a simple move quickly turns into a nightmare filled with incompetent movers shady contractors and bizarre neighbors. Pryor’s signature comedic energy and the absurd situations he encounters make Moving a fun and chaotic watch.

Despite mixed reviews from critics the film earned ten point eight million at the box office and has since gained a cult following among fans of Richard Pryor’s work. The movie also featured memorable cameos including a brief but hilarious appearance by Rodney Dangerfield.
