On This Day March 28 1983 - Baby Snakes Soundtrack by Frank Zappa Was Released
On this day March 28 1983 Frank Zappa released his thirty sixth album Baby Snakes the official soundtrack to his 1979 concert film of the same name. The album captured Zappa’s signature mix of experimental rock virtuoso musicianship and surreal humor all performed with his tight and energetic live band.

Baby Snakes featured a blend of live recordings and spoken word segments with appearances from key Zappa collaborators including Adrian Belew Terry Bozzio and Ed Mann. While it didn’t achieve major commercial success the album became a cult favorite among Zappa fans and showcased his commitment to pushing musical and theatrical boundaries.

80s insight: The Baby Snakes film and soundtrack were originally released independently by Zappa himself after major labels passed on distributing them.
