On this day March 28 1980 the satirical comedy Serial premiered in theaters. Directed by Bill Persky the film starred Martin Mull Tuesday Weld Sally Kellerman Bill Macy and Christopher Lee in a sharp take on the absurdities of life in late 70s Marin County California.

Serial followed a suburban man trying to stay sane while everything around him spirals into chaos his wife embraces New Age trends his daughter joins a cult and his friends dive into swinging and therapy. The film poked fun at social fads yuppie culture and relationship confusion in a rapidly changing America. It brought in $9.8 million at the box office and gained a cult following over the years for its quirky characters and over the top take on suburban life.
